Electronic certificates

Your identity card or residence permit contains two electronic certificates that enable you to use your digital identity securely.

These electronic certificates are as follows:

  • An authentication certificate, enabling you to use MConnect to authenticate yourself on compatible online services
  • An electronic signature certificate, enabling you to sign digital documents

These certificates have a maximum lifetime of 3 years from the date of issue of your card.

If your card is valid for more than 3 years, you will need to renew your certificates before they expire on an interactive terminal in order to continue using MConnect services.

If your card is lost or stolen, please revoke (deactivate) your electronic certificates

To manage your electronic certificates independently (expiry, revocation, etc.), we invite you to create your MConnect Profile.
